SENIOR CITIZEN E-NEWS: NOVEMBER 2023 SENIOR NEWSLETTER - FROM ANNE RUSSAK
Hello Everyone,
October was a very busy month with exercise, informal lunches at MacEachron Park, walks, and trips that unfortunately were canceled due to bad weather.
In addition, we had a huge Open House on October 5th organized by the Senior Council. When I say huge, I mean huge. We had about 140 seniors attend and many vendors in attendance. We had representatives from the County, Lifelong Leaning, FISH (Friends in Service Helping), a representative from our Current Events Group, various volunteer organizations, a game table with possibilities of starting a group of game players, Hastings Historical Society, activities offered by the Hastings Library, and the activities that we offer at the Community Center.
A great deal of work went into the Open House, and I want to thank all of the committee members for their dedication.
On October 10th, we offered a “Lunch and Learn” Program with members of the Hastings Ambulance Corps. The ambulance members discussed what to do in an emergency and what to have handy to make the transition to the hospital less stressful. We were also provided with “In Case of Emergency” cards that can be hung on a doorknob. Please contact me or stop in at the Community Center and pick up one.
On October 26th we had our annual Halloween Party. People were very creative with their costumes, and a good time was had by all.
The walks will continue in November, and they are listed on the calendar, as well as the informal lunches at MacEachron Park as weather permits. Just bring lunch and a chair and socialize with your friends and make new friends. The walks are on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the lunches are on Mondays.
Our New Book Group that started up in September has gotten off to a great start!
The Book Club will meet at the Hastings Library in the Barnes Room, on the 4th Friday of each month from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Copies of selected books will be available at the circulation desk. For additional information or to suggest a book, contact Joyce DeVilbiss-Coordinator at (347) 835-9512 or j.a.devilbiss@gmail.com
The book for November is: “Stealing” by Margaret Verble. Copies will be available at the library. In view of the fact that Thanksgiving falls on the 4th Thursday, the Book Club will meet on Friday November 17th.
Please help spread the word that the Hastings Community Center has a lending program if someone needs a walker, cane crutches, wheelchair, or other necessary items for residents. If you hear of a neighbor or family member in need, or if you are ever in need, please contact me.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me. I hope you are all having a wonderful fall season and enjoy every minute!
