Board of Trustees

Mayor & Board of Trustees

Legislative and policy-making powers are vested in the Mayor and Board of Trustees. The Mayor is the official head of the village and presides at meetings of the Trustees. The Mayor may vote on any matter before the Board, and is obliged to cast the deciding vote in the event of a tie. Elections for the offices of Mayor and Trustee coincide with the General Election (first Tuesday of November). The term of office is two years, staggered so that the Mayor and two Trustees are elected in odd years and two other Trustees are elected in even years. The salary for the Mayor is $4800 per year and each Trustee receives a salary of $2400 per year.

The Board of Trustees meets on the first and third Tuesday evenings of each month at the Municipal Building on Maple Avenue. All meetings are open to the public and residents are encouraged to attend. Before a local law can be adopted, amended or repealed, a public hearing must be held to provide an opportunity for residents to express their views. Adequate notice of the public hearing must be published in an official newspaper, and copies of the proposed legislation must be made available. Voter referendums are held only under circumstances prescribed by state law.
