As you are walking in Hillside Woods tell us what you see!

Dear Hastings Resident,

Following Tuesday's storm, we are eager for folks who are walking in the woods to report any damage from falling trees or branches on recently installed fencing. In addition, we welcome reports of any footpath obstructions or other hazards created by the storm.

There is fencing around 30 acres in the eastern side of the woods, and four mini exclosures near-ish the Judson Avenue entrance. These temporary exclosures are arguably more urgent, as the large eastern exclosure is not yet sealed from deer.

Please email hillsidewoods@hastingsgov.org immediately with a photo and location, if possible, of any issues. Parks will dispatch someone to evaluate and repair the damage.

If you'd like more information about the Hillside Woods Restoration Project, visit this village webpage. There is additional information here, on hastingsgreen.org.

And stay tuned! Parks is in the process of tweaking the 30-acre fenceline to make it deer-proof, and we will subsequently host a community deer drive in March to gently usher the deer out of the exclosure and close it. This will be an exciting event, and everyone is welcome to participate. We will provide two training Zooms with details and Q&A later this month and in February, dates TBD.

Best wishes,

Hillside Woods Steering Committee
