YOU ARE THE DIFFERENCE…HELP US SAVE TAXPAYER DOLLARS BY RECYCLING RIGHT

Dear Resident,

While other communities have had their recycling turned to trash or their programs slashed, Westchester's high-quality recycling stream has kept recycling alive and well - and profitable - in our County. For this, we are all extremely proud. However, in an increasingly exacting market, the County has tightened its recycling standards. A 10% contamination rate is no longer acceptable.

All Village residents must follow the essential requirements in the County guidance below, or our recyclables will be rejected, treated like solid waste, and the Village will be charged a fee especially:

All containers must be CLEAN.

Papers must be CLEAN and DRY.

NO Plastic bags or "film plastic" of any kind.

Every resident needs to do their part! Only you can prevent additional solid waste fees by following the County’s recycling rules.

Please respect your fellow citizens, who are trying hard to RECYCLE RIGHT, and ensure all of our recycling is recycled.

Confused about the finer points?

Check out our Recyclopedia online (or get the app on Google Play or at the App Store), where you can search any item to learn what to do with it.

Reach out to our Department of Public Works for any questions you might have.

The Conservation Commission Municipal Solid Waste web page offers additional guidance for all kinds of waste. In addition to recycling rules, find out more about household hazardous waste items, composting info, etc.

Together we can be a greener Hastings!
