Dear Residents,

Village Wide Speed Limit Study
You may notice traffic data collection strips on several of our roads during the next few weeks.  The purpose for this is to collect data for the Village traffic engineers study to determine whether the Village wide speed limit may be reduced to 25mph.

Chemka Pool
As previously reported, the restoration of Chemka Pool has been completed in time for the 2023 season which opened Saturday, May 27 at 10 am.

Below are photos of sea creatures adorning the spray pool wall painted by local artist Val Harmon and the new mural at the snack bar painted by local artist Katie Reidy. A sincere thank you to both!

Amy Falder, the CEO of New York Green Roofs, and a Village resident, has gifted the Village a green roof for the new entrance to the pool pump room.  The roof features an “alpine plant mix” which requires little maintenance.  Not only does it look beautiful, but it will help to absorb rainwater during extreme weather events. This is a truly fitting addition to all the storm resilience work at the pool and in Hillside Woods. Thank you to Amy Falder for this generous donation.

Below are photos of the installation of the green roof:

I would like to extend a big thank you to the Parks & Recreation Department, and the Department of Public Works for their combined efforts to install the roof and everything else that they have done to ensure the success of the pool project.

The Village is currently working with residents Margie Lavender and Eugenia Swart who have expertise in native landscaping to beautify the entrance to the pool.  That work should be completed over the next few weeks.

The Village is so fortunate to have residents who so freely give their time and expertise and we appreciate their generosity.

As you can see from the photos below, opening day was a fabulous success and the warm sunny Memorial Day Weekend was a perfect start to the Chemka Pool Season.

Mayor Armacost with the assistance of her team of youth cut the ribbon at the opening.

The scaffolding surrounding the library has been removed and access to the library is available from all entrances. Thanks to both the library staff and patrons for their flexibility as we completed this building improvement. The roof project was funded in part by the 2020/2021 State Aid Library Construction Grant.
