CHEMKA POOL UPDATE
SEPTEMBER 8, 2022

Dear Residents:

As you may be aware, on July 26, 2022, the Village Board of Trustees awarded the contract for restoration work to be done at the Chemka Pool to Jennosa Pools, Inc. That work includes redesign of the access point to the pump room, replacement of most of the electrical and mechanical equipment in the pump room (pumps, electrical lines, housings, and gauges), alterations to the chlorine feed system and leak detection and resolution. The Village and Jennosa Pools signed a contract on August 17, 2022.

Physical work is anticipated to begin in the fall and finish ahead of Memorial Day Weekend 2023.

Prior to entering the contract, the contractor, aquatic engineer, and electrical sub-contractor made several site visits in July and August to meet with staff and review plans, as well as consider more robust solutions to mitigate the flood hazard.

As a result of those meetings and after the most recent rainstorm in July a more comprehensive flooding solution is being implemented. The Village has directed Rimkunas Engineering to redesign the existing driveway and entry to the pump room to prevent further storm water inundation by building a flood wall and raising the contour of the land such that it slopes away from the pool house. The Parks staff has begun to clean out the Main Pool to help prevent further buildup of debris, algae, and plant life that inevitably grows in the off-season. Cleaning out the pool will also allow the contractor to perform assessments and repairs as needed. They have also cleaned out pump room to allow better access for the contractors. The pump room will be painted as well.

The contractor and electrician have prepared submittals to the aquatic engineer and those submittals are under review for approval.

Once final designs for the driveway are in-hand, demolition work will begin. This is expected to occur in September. The electrician is also expected to begin work in September which is essential to supplying the facility with necessary power. At the electrician’s recommendation electrical panels are being relocated out of the pump room and being elevated to the wall above and outside the pump room. This will further secure the system from any threat of flood. The contractor will begin installation of the new pump room components as soon as Westchester County Department of Health provides final approval which is expected shortly.

The Village will provide residents with regular updates throughout the construction process.

We appreciate your interest in and enthusiasm for getting this project underway and look forward to summer 2023.

Very truly yours,
