Weather Briefing

Area Forecast Discussion:
A low pressure area will move toward the Great Lakes Sunday. As this storm moves to our northwest, the High pressure area will hold tight over southeast Canada. This high will keep cold air in place, at least initially.
An area of snow will break out across the region Sunday morning and spread northeast. It appears all areas will see some snow before it mixes with sleet and possible freezing rain. This wintry precipitation is expected to change to rain in most sections. Areas across the city and Long Island will have the earliest change over, with inland spots holding on with the wintry precipitation longer. Minor accumulations are expected across the coastal areas, with up to 1 to 2 inches possible in the interior during the day Sunday.
There will be an opportunity for some warmer air to move into the region Sunday afternoon and night. It is still a bit early to determine the timing of change over to plain rain, but it will likely happen from southeast to northwest.
A second area of low pressure is expected to form just south of Long Island Sunday night. This new low pressure will prolong the precipitation as it only slowly moves east to northeast. A return to colder air will come in on the backside of this slow moving storm, and it is possible that snow will re-develop Monday afternoon and spread all the way to the coast. There may be some accumulations of this snow by late Monday night and Tuesday morning.
