REMINDER FOR TONIGHT: Earth Month Actions That Benefit You Too! Community Solar & GridRewards:™ Save Energy, Lower Your Carbon Footprint & Earn Cash – Learn More, Thursday April 22nd at 7 pm via ZOOM

Tonight, Claire Kokoska of Sustainable Westchester will present the Community Solar and GridRewards™ clean energy community campaigns. Both are easy, no cost, energy actions that lower your carbon footprint, save you money and/or earn you cash!  If this sounds too good to be true … well it’s actually true, so join us to learn how it works and how you can benefit. Pretty much everyone qualifies (home-owners, renters, people living in apartments, businesses, not-for-profits etc. …), all you need is a Con Edison account.

** Community Solar enables you to support solar energy generation WITHOUT solar panels of your own. You get 10% off your electricity bill just for choosing to link your energy account to a local community solar farm (no cost to you, no need for solar panels, only a lower electricity bill, cancel anytime). The only people who don’t qualify for this are people who already have solar panels!

** GridRewards™ is an app that sends you a message on peak energy usage days alerting you to reduce usage. You’ll get between 5 and 10 texts a summer. If you lower your usage on those days, you’ll get sent a check by Con Edison (estimates range from $100 to $200). Again, there is no cost to participate (the App is free), you just need to be a Con Edison customer and to sign up by April 30th (there is no penalty for not taking action, you simply won't get rewarded come September). In our municipality everyone qualifies! Also, we are challenging our Rivertowns neighbors to see who can sign up the most residents – we’re in the lead right, please helps us keep it that way!!!

Tonight, Claire will guide you through the sign up process for both programs in real time, so remember to have your Con Edison online account password and your Con Edison account number handy (if you’ve never logged into your online Con Edison account, do so in advance so you have a password ready and so your account is linked to your current email address and cell phone).  It will be an interactive webinar and you’ll be able to ask questions.

We’ve updated the Community Campaign page on our website HERE with more recent information on each of the programs, including new flyers, and how to sign up for an individual tutorial on GridRewards if you’re finding it difficult to complete the process.

Happy Earth Month, see you tonight, and go Hastings!
