Ravensdale Bridge Update - October 2020
UPDATE: Ravensdale Bridge - October 2020
It has been about two months now since the NYSDOT contractor ECCO III switched the Ravensdale Road traffic over to the temporary bridge seamlessly on Friday, August 14th. Thank you all for bearing with the noise of the demolition of the existing bridge. Except for the east embankment, the work is complete. What made it so difficult to remove was the very hard cement mined before World War II in Upstate New York. The concrete was not going anywhere, but the steel reinforcement was apparently not up to modern earthquake standards, and that unfortunately required its replacement.
The top portion of the east embankment still needs to be removed, but the rest will remain, buried under the new approaching roadway. The South County Trailway is temporarily diverted westward around the crane:
Just this Friday, October 24th, they finished paving the Shared Use Path to the South County Trailway and installed a new solar-powered bus stop.
ECCO III still needs to put in finishing touches, such as guardrails, bollards, and bridge railings. Plantings will follow next summer.
