UPDATE: Ravensdale Bridge
On the night of March 25, Ecco III began installing the beams that span the Saw Mill River Parkway to support the new Ravensdale Bridge. They began by installing five 70-foot beams on the west side that were supported by temporary jacks.
On the night of March 30, they began installing 140-foot beams on the east side that connect to the 70-foot beams on the west side to complete the span.
On the night of April 2, they installed the final long beam.
The final beam (about 50 tons) arrives by truck on the Parkway (lower right).
An enormous 300-ton crane lifts the beam from the truck.
Steel workers manhandle the beam 90° counterclockwise.
The final long beam is lowered into position.
It is mated to the shorter beam.
Today (April 3), all five beams across the Parkway are complete.
The shorter (70’) and longer (140’) beams are secured to each other by plates with more than 400 bolts.
Traffic flows beneath the new span.
When the temporary jacks are removed (in the next week or so), the structure will be self-supporting.
ECCO III is on schedule to open the new Ravensdale Bridge to traffic in June, and we will continue to post exact dates as milestones approach:
- May: Completion of Bridge Substructure
- June: Completion of Bridge Superstructure, Utilities, Roadway and Approaches & Opening of New Ravensdale Bridge to Traffic
- August: Removal of the Temporary Bridge
- October: Completion of Roadway Reconstruction and Landscaping
We will continue to update you as the project progresses, and please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have specific concerns.
