Mayor's Message: Shout Outs Galore! - Covid-19 Acts of Kindness #17 May 2, 2020

Mayor
Hi everyone,

It turns out that there are lots of things to celebrate today beyond the fact that the sun is actually out and the rain has finally stopped (the weather was beginning to feel decidedly British …).

Chief Lindner says that other people are welcome to come out but please remember to keep physically separated and to wear masks! Moving forward if you have a birthday to celebrate please email Chief Lindner at:  firechief@hastingsgov.org and let him know – he’ll work out how to include everyone. Just so you know, they love doing this. When he sent me the list of locations, Chief Schnibbe wrote: “We’re all super grateful to have the opportunity to provide this to everyone. I know you’ll probably say we deserve the praise, but we’re just doing our thing for all of you in this great town.” It is such a lovely gesture and sincere thanks to our First Responders for this special HOH birthday treat!

PD Productions Inc.
It turns out that members of our Police Department have a range of talents that were entirely under utilized before the pandemic. They have released two fun and informative videos to help explain how to keep yourselves and your families safe, see: “Covid Safety” and “The End of Covid”. Note that the videos are already highly acclaimed international hits (my parents saw them in London and loved them). Thanks to everyone in the Police Department for making us laugh and educating us at the same time!

Flowers4Seniors
Untermyer Gardens, located just outside of Hastings-on-Hudson in Yonkers, has been closed due to the pandemic, but the President Steve Byrnes and his team came up with the super idea of gathering the flowers the public was unable to enjoy and giving them to hospitals in the area. We asked if they would be willing to include Andrus on Hudson. Thanks to the intercession our own Meg Walker, an Untermyer Board Member and Former HOH Trustee, they agreed! This past Tuesday, armfuls of gorgeous tulips were delivered to Andrus to the delight of staff and patients alike. Thanks to Meg and Steve for bringing joy to many of our local seniors and health care workers. In this spirit, if you want to contribute flowers to Andrus from your own garden, there’s a bucket of water outside the Ambulance building on Main Street where you can leave them and our amazing EMS team will deliver them to Andrus.

Masks4HOH
Thanks to County Executive George Latimer and Hanes Brands (famous for very comfortable close to the skin clothing) we received a donation of 3,500 washable cloth masks to distribute in the Village.  Beyond Village staff and the Fire Department volunteers, we are donating masks to Andrus, seniors and meals on wheels recipients, food pantry families, apartment building occupants, local businesses including grocery stores and landscapers, as well as our post office workers. Thanks to George and Hanes for this very sweet and useful donation!

As always, feel free to reach out to me if you have specific questions, concerns or stories to share: mayor@hastingsgov.org

Sincerely,

Nicola Armacost
