Mayor's Message: Helping our Seniors - a Covid-19 Act of Kindness #12 March 26, 2020

Mayor
Hi everyone,

Thanks to all of you, the Family-to-Family GoFundMe site has raised over $33,700 in just 10 days (the original goal was $20,000). On March 23, the first group of fifty-six $50 gift cards was distributed to Hastings families with children in the reduced/free lunch meals program.  Yesterday, fifty $50 gift cards were dropped off.  Recipients were incredibly grateful.

In the meantime, Trustee Lopez, Ann Russak (our Senior Outreach Coordinator), Lisa O’Reilly (from our Parks and Recreation team) and the Family-to Family team have identified another need - senior citizens. The team hopes to provide the funds for a weekly basics box of groceries for eligible seniors, filled with eggs, milk, bread, oatmeal etc.

Also, there are 20+ senior citizens dependent on a daily lunch meal delivery from Meals on Wheels and funds to provide those meals are running thin. So we’re asking for help from our neighbors to spread the word and share through your social networks - the new goal is $50,000. Please continue to give generously!

We intend to continue these programs for as long as necessary.

Sincerely,

Nicola Armacost
Mayor
