Mayor’s Message: The Welcome Back Friday Event Tonight

Mayor
Hi everyone,

Several of you have written to me concerned that the Village is going ahead with the planned outdoor event tonight. As you are all aware, there continue to be isolated cases of covid-19 in the Village, and I have been in touch with the School as to recent developments at Farragut Middle School. I’d like to assure you however that there is no data to suggest an outbreak of covid-19 in the Village.  I have not been contacted by anyone from the Westchester County Heath Department informing me that anything needs to change in the way we conduct affairs in the Village, including shutting down tonight's event.

In deciding to go ahead with the event, we are making our decision based on science.  That is to say an outdoor event, where people are wearing masks and exercising social distancing, in a group of less than 50 people is low risk.  In a similar vein we will not ask the Farmers Market to close on Saturday. We make the assumption that people will act responsibly and that if they feel sick they will not go out and expose others. We also make the assumption that if people are sick with covid-19 symptoms, they will get tested, inform people who might have been exposed, and quarantine for the recommended two weeks.  And finally, we assume that people who may have been exposed to an infected person follow quarantine protocols as instructed. I trust that all of you will exercise the appropriate amount of caution that your personal situation demands and that you will act responsibly.

If you have any reservations about attending the event tonight please stay home.

My best,

Nicola Armacost
