Mayor’s Message – Spring Thing! Is On and News About a Gift

Mayor
Dear everyone,

A very quick note to say that it looks as if the rain has subsided and our annual Spring Thing! is on! Please come out and join all our merchants, our invited eco vendors and our hard working and amazing cadre of volunteers. Here’s what I posted about Spring Thing! on Friday ..

Spring Thing!: Sunday April 23, 12 to 4 pm Warburton Ave
On Sunday April 23, the Village is hosting its annual Spring Thing! from noon to 4:00 pm (see HERE). It will take place all along Warburton Avenue, with a Green Vendor Fair and Activity Zone. There will be live music (Eric Blicker and Concrete Flowers), a community cookout hosted by our Fire Department, and a return visit from the museum of interesting things. Restaurants will have outdoor tables and some of our stores will be hosting sidewalk sales and offering deals. There will be activities for kids, including the traditional headdress wreath-making craft made from invasive vines. Our volunteer teens will draw a huge earth circle in chalk that kids can fill in (please bring chalk!). Vendors will provide information about how to green your home and garden and there will be interactive family craft activities. We have timed it so our National Drive Electric Day celebration is happening at the same time, giving you a chance learn more about EVs as well as the other clean energy campaigns we’re promoting. You can also learn about our pollinator pathways initiative. Basically, it will be an amazing street party and you’re all welcome!!

The Perfect Earth Day Gift for Our Village
I wanted to give a shout out to Amy Falder, the CEO of New York Green Roofs and a Village resident, who has given the Village the gift of a green roof for one of the buildings at the pool.  It will feature an “alpine mix” and not only will it look beautiful, but will help to absorb rainwater during extreme weather events. The roof will be installed sometime next week and our Village Manager will send us all photos of the process, but in the meantime, if you see Amy around the Village, please thank her – it really is the perfect Earth Day gift!

As always, for Village events see: Destination Hastings and Upcoming Community Events (which is the link posted in the Board of Trustees Agenda twice a month).

See you at Spring Thing!
Sincerely,

Nicola Armacost
