Mayor’s Message – Octoberfest, Thrifting for a Cause, Drive Electric, Celebrating the Clarks, Art and Music and More!

This weekend is packed with amazing events for you to enjoy including some that are happening tonight! 
 
Friday Night Live Octoberfest – TONIGHT!!!! October 13, 6 to 9 pm, Boulanger Plaza
Tonight, come out and celebrate Friday Night Live Octoberfest. It will take place in Boulanger Plaza and starts at 6 pm (see HERE for details). Many of our shops will be open late to welcome you. There will be polka dancing thanks to the delightful Polkadelphia, lots of food and drink from local merchants, as well as fun activities sponsored by our Fire Department including a “jaws of life” demo and a competitive firefighter relay race. Rivertowns Thrift – October 14, 8am to 1 pm, Good Witch Coffee Bar
This pop up is a lovely way to support our Food Pantry (see HERE) and is brought to us by the Friends of the Youth Council. To learn about them, and all the great work they do in our community, click HERE (and to donate to them click HERE!!).
 
National Drive Electric Week Celebration – October 14, 9 to 11 am, Commuter Lot
For details about this event see my previous Mayor’s Message (HERE). Also, a reminder that if you’ve bought an EV or a plug-in EV since June 2023 please email chargeuphastings@hastingsgov.org and let us know. If we can document 15 residents who’ve bought one since then, we’re eligible for a grant from NYSERDA!
 
Dedication of Drs. Clark Way – Saturday, October 14, 2 pm to 6 pm – James Harmon Community Center
For details about this event see my previous Mayor’s Message (HERE) and please join us either in person or via live-stream!  The email also includes information about the Brown v. Board of Education Virtual Seminar and the live-stream assemblies of Minnijean Brown-Trickey of the Little Rock Nine that took place today and yesterday at the schools (she is an extraordinary person!).  The taped versions of the school assemblies and the October 14 th event will be available for viewing beginning the week of October 20th on the Historical Society website (see HERE).
 
RiverArts Studio Tour Preview Show – Sunday, October 15, 3 to 5 pm, Village Hall
On Sunday, the RiverArts Studio Tour will kick off at 3 pm at Village Hall. Works by artist from Hastings, Dobbs Ferry and Ardsley will be presented and usually there is wine and cheese for you to enjoy! Thanks to RiverArts and the Village Arts Committee for bringing these visual treats our way (see HERE for more).
 
Ringston-Ward Duo – Sunday, October 15, 3 pm, Library, Orr Room
Also on Sunday, and right next door to the Studio Tour Preview Show in the Orr Room at the Library starting at 3 pm, you can hear music from France, Spain, Argentina and Japan (see HERE for details).
 
Annual Calendar Cover Contest
If you have photographs you think would be perfect for the cover of the Village calendar please send them to calendar@hastingsgov.org (see HERE for the submission criteria).  Note that the deadline for submissions is October 31, 2023.
 
Planning Ahead for Halloween
We will provide more detailed information soon, but here are some highlights so you can see what’s on offer in the Village leading up to Halloween.
