Mayor’s Message – The Importance of Shopping Local

Mayor
Dear everyone,

As we gear up for the holiday season, please make a point of visiting our downtown to “shop local”.  While we encourage everyone to do this all year, it’s especially important to our business owners during the holiday season so please come out and support them.

Click HERE for a lovely holiday message from many of our local merchants to entice you to pop into their establishments to browse. If you need gift ideas, the annual Hastings Shop Local for the Holiday's Gift Guide is posted on the Destination Hastings site. Also available is the Destination Hastings Downtown Dollar$ Community eGift Card (see HERE), which can only be used in Hastings-on-Hudson with a participating merchant.  To support downtown holiday shopping, the Village has continued the tradition of waiving the parking meters in the downtown until January 2nd, offering 2 hours of free parking (note that the meters in the Con Edison and Commuter lots are not included – the free meters have blue caps on them and a message explaining the fee has been waived).

Rivertowns Holiday Trolley – December 10, 2022 from 11AM to 5PM, Rivertowns
The Rivertowns Chamber of Commerce once again brings us the holiday trolley that provides a delightful old-fashioned means to visit our sister Villages. The trolley is in operation today until 5 pm, the cost is $12 for adults / $6 for children, and you can pick it up at the VFW or the Good Witch Coffee Bar (see HERE). It will run through Irvington, Dobbs Ferry, and Hastings-on-Hudson. Festive activities and pop-ups are taking place in each village, showcasing the best of local art, music, crafts and food.

Friends of the Library Holiday Giftique – December 10, 9:30AM to 2PM and Sunday, December 11th, 2022 from 1PM to 5PM, Hastings Library
Every year our Hastings Public Library hosts a charming Giftique and bake sale where you can pick up treasures for everyone in the family and support the Friends of the Library at the same time.  The Giftique is open both days this weekend from 9:30 am to 2 pm (see HERE).

Winter Celebration – December 11, 1PM, James Harmon Community Center
Tomorrow, our own Adam Hart will be performing a concert featuring holiday season favorites. It will take place at the Community Center staring at 1 pm. There will be pre-concert family activities, with hot chocolate, a chance to explore those adorable gnome homes, and mingle with your neighbors (see HERE).

And finally, a very special thanks to our DPW and Parks and Recreation teams for the magical decorations in the downtown, as well as the delightfully festive Warburton and Ravensdale Bridges.  The village truly does look beautiful!

Sincerely,

Nicola Armacost
