The Hastings-on-Hudson Sanitation Team Needs Your Help: COVID-19 Measures

The Village’s Department of Public Works Sanitation is working hard to provide essential sanitation services during the COVID-19 public health emergency. Our goal is to keep our employees safe and healthy while continuing to provide curbside pickup of trash and recycling.

To enhance the safety and efficiency of our sanitation operations during this challenging period, we respectfully request the following community assistance during this emergency – please help keep us safe by doing the following:
  • Bag all your garbage in securely closed bags before putting it out for collection – please no loose garbage in the cans – only put out your garbage if it is in a receptacle.
  • Bring your refuse and recycling all the way to the curb  – this will speed up collection.
  • Make sure your garbage/recycling is clearly visible to staff to avoid missed pick-up.
  • Refrain from putting out bulk trash that can be deferred until after the emergency is over.
  • Note that we will not be offering yard waste pick up at this time.
  • For those of you still bringing food waste to the DPW for composting, be sure to use gloves and alcohol based wipes to protect yourself and the DPW staff.
Our DPW workers are employing safely procedures of social distancing (one driver and two DPW workers riding on the back of the truck one on each side) and are using protective gloves and clothing. They are avoiding contact with each other at the DPW yard and we are sending everyone home when the essential work is done. Signage reminding the team of COVID 19 best practices is up at DPW and of course everyone is hand washing.
As the situation evolves, we may need to make changes in the weekly pick up schedule.  We will attempt to provide as much notice as possible for any necessary changes.
Thank you for helping us stay safe and healthy!
Sincerely,

DPW Superintendent Mike Gunther and the DPW Team
Village Manager Mary Beth Murphy
Mayor Nicola Armacost
