Hastings-on-Hudson Fire Department - Important Reminders and Short Video on Fire Safety and Prevention

HFD PATCH
The Hastings on Hudson Fire Department would like to bring your attention to a short ~5-minute video that provides important tips on how to prevent fires and how to protect yourself should one occur. The video was created and distributed by the Department of Emergency Services of Westchester County.

All residents are highly encouraged to watch the video which focuses on three critical safety areas and messages:

- Get out, Stay out, Call 911 Immediately! - - Fires can double in size in as quick as 30-seconds. Do not enter a burning building, home or apartment once you are out safely. Report any fire, regardless of size, immediately so that help can respond quickly.

- Close the door. - -  If you have to flee a fire, close the door as you leave. This simple act can save lives and significantly reduce property damage. A closed door limits the supply of oxygen to a fire and prevents the rapid spread of smoke and flames.

- Handle Lithium Ion batteries properly. - - Lithium ion batteries are used to charge laptops, cellphones and other devices. They are also increasingly the source of fires in Westchester and elsewhere. When they are not charged, stored or handled properly they can overheat and cause a fire. Residents are reminded to not leave lithium powered devices on fabric surfaces such as pillows, beds or sofas.
