Runoff from rainstorms and melting snow carries pollutants such as nitrogen lawn fertilizer, grass clippings, pesticides, road salt and plastics into our Village’s wetlands and streams.  As a homeowner, you can help to protect our waterways and the animals that live in them by managing stormwater runoff on your property and in your neighborhood.

  • A rain barrel collects the runoff from you roof before it becomes stormwater. Click HERE or HERE for more information.
  • A rain garden collects stormwater and allows it to soak into the ground. Click HERE or HERE for more information.
  • A bioswale collects stormwater, or transports it, to a Rain Garden or other collection mechanism. Click HERE for more information.
  • Permeable pavement allows stormwater to soak into the ground instead of running off an asphalt driveway. Click HERE for more information.
  • Planting trees and native plants holds your property's soil in place and protects it from stormwater erosion. Click HERE or HERE for more information.
