Yonkers FEMA Disaster Recovery Center Closing Permanently Oct. 15

The Disaster Recovery Center at Yonkers Library will close permanently at 6 p.m. Friday but residents affected by Hurricane Ida can still get help with their FEMA applications for disaster assistance. Help is just a phone call or a mouse click away, or a tap on the FEMA app.

The recovery center that’s closing is located in the Yonkers Library at 1500 Central Park Ave. Recovery centers remain open at eight other locations including one in nearby Mamaroneck and others in New York City, Long Island and Rockland counties.

Specialists at those centers are available to answer many of your questions including those about delays in receiving a response from FEMA about your eligibility for assistance and help to upload documents to your account.

For those who wish to apply for FEMA assistance, visit DisasterAssistance.gov, use the FEMA mobile app or call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362. If you use video relay service (VRS), captioned telephone service or others, give FEMA the number for that service. Helpline operators are available from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week and can connect you to a specialist who speaks your language.

You may also visit any of the other Disaster Recovery Centers and meet face-to-face with FEMA staff and representatives of other federal and state agencies. The centers also allow access to technology equipment for those with disabilities. If you need a sign language interpreter or specialized technology equipment, tell the specialist when you call the FEMA Helpline.

The Disaster Recovery Centers below have operating hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and are closed on Sundays:

The Rockland County Disaster Recovery Center is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day until further notice. It is located at Orangetown Soccer Club Complex, 175 Old Orangeburg Road, Orangeburg, NY 10962.

Survivors do not need to visit a Disaster Recovery Center to get help. If you live in the Bronx, Kings, Nassau, Queens, Richmond, Rockland, Suffolk or Westchester County, and you have damage, losses or are unable to live in your homes because of Hurricane Ida-related damage, you are encouraged to apply for FEMA disaster assistance before visiting a recovery center.

The deadline to apply for FEMA disaster assistance is Monday, Dec. 6.
