The County has begun their paving and safety improvement work on Farragut Avenue and the work is expected to continue throughout the summer and into early fall.  Curbs, ADA ramps, and catch basins will be done first. The contractor is starting at the southern end of Farragut Ave, near The Fenway and will continue north to Broadway and then back down the other side.
FARRAGUT 1
The picture above shows an opening of the island near Farragut & The Fenway designed to address movements at this intersection. It will allow lefts in & out of The Fenway without the circuitous U-turns and vehicles driving the wrong way on northbound Farragut in order to travel southbound on Farragut Parkway. This modification, coupled with the reduction in Farragut Parkway as it approaches Farragut Ave. from two lanes to one lane and realignment of the local approach of Farragut Avenue should increase overall safety at the intersection.

The stop sign on The Fenway will be moved up to enhance visibility. Additional modifications include: pavement markings including STOP letters added at The Fenway Stop Bar; a short double yellow line on The Fenway; the addition of cat tracks (dotted lines) to direct left turns from The Fenway to Farragut Parkway; and replacing additional curbing in the immediate vicinity.

Work around the trees in the islands is limited to curb replacement. Tree protection will be installed around the remaining trees in the curb islands where the contractor will be working.

The overall schedule provides that by July 1, the contractor will complete the curb island work, and start installing the ADA ramps and replacing the castings of the catch basins between Ravensdale Rd and The Fenway.  Work progressing past Ravensdale towards the Middle School should start approximately July 5. The contractor is tentatively planning to start milling and paving the road during the first week of August (weather permitting).
