UPDATE: Ravensdale Bridge

As construction progresses on the Ravensdale Bridge, we want to keep everyone updated not just on what to expect next, but the full arc of the project.  You may have noticed two giant ramps being built, facing each other across the Saw Mill Parkway:

These are the supporting abutments and approaches for the temporary metal bridge, which will be assembled and pushed out across the Parkway on rollers from the west to the east.  These abutments are being constructed in lifts of compressed gravel, held in place by the perimeter wire mesh cages, and will be removed when the new bridge is put into service.

The temporary bridge requires one pier between these two abutments on the east side of the Parkway, and it needs to go right at the spot on the ground marked with green paint, where that portable generator is sitting:

The contractor, ECCO III, discovered an existing sewer line at that location, unfortunately, and all were concerned that the pier might damage it.  ECCO III has come up with a solution to drive piles on either side of the sewer line to support a platform above it which will in turn support the pier—effectively a temporary bridge to support the temporary bridge.  They will drive the piles beginning this Friday, hence the need to close this section of the South County Trailway.  The work will continue into next week, but they will pause it for Saturday and Sunday so that the Trailway can be open for the weekend.

This pier re-engineering has pushed the erection of the temporary bridge and lane shift out to July, but ECCO III expects to make this time up in their schedule.  They will of course keep us updated if anything else unforeseen causes further delays, and they still plan to be finished by June of next year.

We will continue to update you as the project progresses, and please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have specific concerns.
