Statement by the Village of Hastings-on-Hudson Board of Trustees on Anti-Asian violence across this country.
BOARD OF TRUSTEES
We would like to say something regarding the recent spate of Anti-Asian violence across this country since the pandemic and the continued “name calling” by national leaders. It is important to recognize that we are all immigrants in one form or another. It is important to note that citizenship was obtained by Asian-Americans in much the same way as African Americans or Hispanic-Americans or South-Asian Americans….you get the point...we are all so much more alike than different. And NO ONE is to blame for a scientific anomaly, but there are some to blame for its handling and the made-up manifestations of who is “good” and who is “bad”. We would like to say that we stand in solidarity with the large and wide Asian community. The time of pitting minority groups against each other has to be put in the past. It is our job to stick up and stand up for each other. We will not tolerate hatred. This board will not tolerate hatred. We should not have to live in a society where hatred is tolerated by anyone. We are deeply saddened by these occurrences, and that we have to constantly make statements like this. Rather than stand apart from each other, reserving our anger for only our individual experiences, we must come together in the face of such hatred - we believe that is how we will persist.
Thank you.
