SAVE THE DATE: Rivertowns Pollinator Forum - February 27, 2020
Posted on: January 30, 2020 - 3:26pm
The Hastings Conservation Commission has been networking with its colleagues in Rivertowns environment committees on areas of regional interest. We encourage residents of Hastings-on-Hudson to attend this Rivertowns talk on pollinator gardens in Dobbs Ferry. As recent news reports have revealed, overall insect populations have decreased nearly 45% worldwide, and up to 75% in some countries. The reasons are many: climate disruption, habitat loss and pesticides are some of the conspiring factors.
What can you do locally? Help restore the health of our local ecosystem by including pollinator-friendly flowers in your yard and eliminating or reducing pesticide use. The Conservation Commission will host a native plant sale at a talk by Carolyn Summers on April 6th (save the date!). Keep your eyes on this evolving story, and support systems-wide change toward more eco-friendly practices.
