Message from the Mayor: TMTTR, Art, Magic, Flea

Fellow Residents;

This weekend celebrates so much about this village – the musical, artistic and entrepreneurial talent here -  that I am putting out a special bulletin just to cover the many high points:

Saturday

Take Me To The River Music Festival
===========================
After a one-year hiatus, the Take Me To The River festival comes roaring back (gates open at noon, first act at 12:30, ends 9:00) with 18 performances on two stages, ranging from local teenage bands, through regional acts and to national acts. There’s fire dancers (closing it out), a 500-pound steel ball you can organize a group to make it sing (beats me, too, but I heard its cool), henna tatooers, food vendors from Hastings and elsewhere (including a beer and wine garden), a solar-power merry-go-around, art installations by local artists.  Its $20 in advance and $25 at the door, with tickets at www.12milesnorth.nyc.  Come early for the Foodtown-sponsored "Jazz Brunch" (free mimosa if you're over 21 + a nosh) if you arrive before 2PM and then kick back as local jazz greats Tim Armacost, Gary Smulyan, John Patitucci and Billy Hart take the stage from 2-3 PM.

Penny Lick anniversary magic show
==========================
This Saturday, our own ice cream shoppe Penny Lick celebrates its one-year anniversary with a reprise of the magic show they sponsored to kick-off their (ridiculously successful) opening one year ago.  The music show, while keyed towards the younger set, was entirely a hoot a year ago and I have no reason to believe it won't be again.  11AM downtown right in front of the VFW.  Don’t miss (and then go to the concert right afterwards…)

Sunday

Upstream Gallery Openings
====================
The Upstream hosts two openings of local artists, featuring Paul Greco’s show “Symbology” and Cecily A. Spitzer’s “Faces of Nature”.  Opening reception is from 2PM to 5PM.

Village Arts Commission
==================
The Village Arts Commission is celebrating the opening of its latest show at the Municipal Building this Sunday, 4PM to 6PM, a show of luscious pastels by our own talented Cristine Kossow.  The Village Arts Commission has been killing it this last couple of years, with one quality exhibit after another. Drop by, grab a glass of wine, meet the artist and spend some time immersed.

Finally, Sunday from 10A-4PM, local entrepreneur Ilana Arazie throws the bi-monthly Hastings Flea down at the commuter lot, with a bouncy house, food truck, tarot reader and more. There’s live music all day, and a children’s concert at 11.

While you’re downtown at the gallery openings or watching the magic show or walking to the Flea, remember our downtown merchants and make sure to favor them with your attention and spending. They appreciate it. And rely on it.

It’s a great weekend for the arts in Hastings – hope to see you around.

Sincerely,

Peter Swiderski
Mayor
