Message from the Mayor: FNL, Fire Engine Parade, Gallery Show, F2F Fundraiser, Building 52 progress

Fellow Residents,

This weekend is highlighted by a parade in honor of the 140th birthday of our Protection Engine #1 firehouse – one of the oldest firehouses in Westchester (the one on Warburton by the Chase bank).  Please attend to enjoy the spectacle and honor those who volunteer on your behalf.

Friday Night Live Firehouse Block Party
================================
On Friday, between 7 and 10, Warburton between Spring and Villard will be closed for a block party-style Friday Night Live with barbecue, music, games for the kids, some fire department-themed activities and a chance to enjoy each other’s company. Come, enjoy, and free as always.

Parade
======
Kicking off at 1:30 on Saturday, this dress parade (the 110th one held by the volunteer departments of Westchester) will include scores and scores  of fire engines from across all of Westchester, all polished up with their crews in uniform for this spectacle. It’s been a while since we’ve hosted it, and it’s a moving spectacle, seeing so many good men and women who all volunteer to protect their communities, coming together in solidarity with their engines at their spiffiest.  It will begin on Warburton at Pinecrest, and head into town, turning on North Street down Maple Avenue.  I remember my kids were young when they first saw this parade, and they were mesmerized by the sheer quantity and spectacle.  Don’t miss it.  It’s a big deal.

Farmers Market Relocated
======================
Because of the parade, the Farmers Market is relocating on Saturday to the American Legion on Farragut Avenue that day.

Gallery Opening
==============
Square Peg Gallery at 385 Warburton is hosting the opening reception for their new gallery exhibit by Dobbs resident Jerzy Kubina  “Between Light and Shadow” this Saturday, Sept. 24th from 6-9PM.

Family-to-Family Swap Shop Fundraiser
=================================
Bring a bag of your freshly cleaned, lightly worn fall and winter women’s and teenage girl’s clothing and accessories at the Family to Family storefront at 416 Warburton and get a tax-deductible receipt for your donation and the right to a discount card so when they open for business November 29th through Friday, December 9th you will only pay a discounted amount for a bag of whatever clothing you choose.

Building 52 Next Steps
===================
We have received all the documents requested from BP so we can render a decision on what is called a “Negative Declaration” for SEQRA, indicating that we are satisfied that the demolition of Building 52 will not have a significant environmental impact on the Village.  We are awaiting submissions of comments by other governmental agencies (including the EPA), and as soon as those are complete and we have a chance to review, we will put the “Neg Dec” and a vote on permission for BP to move ahead with a demolition permit on our agenda. It may come as early at October 4th, depending upon those other agencies.

We look forward to seeing you at the parade. Please come and support our brave volunteers and enjoy the show this Saturday.

Sincerely,

Peter Swiderski
Mayor
