Mayor's Message: Mother’s Day in HoH, May 10, 2020

Mayor
Hi everyone,

To all the Mums in town, and to mine who is an ocean away, Happy Mother's Day for tomorrow!

Barb Prisament, our Downtown Advocate, asked me to share that there is still time to pamper your mothers via our local businesses this weekend. A gift certificate or meal from a local restaurant is a terrific way to tell your Mum you love her!

Check out the link below with information about all the Hastings restaurants that are offering pick up, delivery, and gift certificates including an offering of weekend hot dinners from B6 Kitchen which, in partnership with our newest Hastings downtown business, Wild Flower, is also offering Mother's Day bouquets. There is also the recently announced "Hyper Local Delivery" from Harvest on Hudson, which will deliver within a 500 foot radius of the restaurant. This means you and yours can set up a picnic in MacEachron Park or use the tables in the garden (spaced at least 6' apart from one another and available for your use). Note that Saint George Bistro has reopened for pick up and delivery, and Tony from Sakura is looking forward to opening again on May 18th.  We're so excited to welcome them both back!

Do remember our smaller food markets and our pharmacy which offer a variety of lovely gifts for Mum, including: natural foods, soaps, body care and supplements from Food For Thought; flowers and gourmet foods from Four Seasons Market; as well as a variety of items from Greenleaf Pharmacy

In addition to restaurants, many of our retailers have found a way to do business via curbside pickup, local delivery, shipping and personal shopping/appointments. In addition, many are highlighting their wares on Facebook and Instagram and/or their web sites.  For example: Hudson Line Shop (which is also still making custom furniture) has just added a houseware collection to their site. This means you can shop online at your leisure and they'll either meet you at the store for pickup, or will offer local delivery.  In2Green has also added a store inventory online and has a wide range of gifts, as has Found Herbal.  Suburban Renewal is posting photographs of gift items on their Facebook page and you can reach out to Fonda to make an appointment to purchase a specific item.

The Wall Street Journal reported an increased demand for jigsaw puzzles in the New York area, and a shortage of supply.  Not so in Hastings-on-Hudson - Lisa at Chelsea Dry Goods just received 10 more cartons of puzzles in case you want to scoop one up. Lisa is also happy to be your "personal shopper" at Chelsea’s, so give her a ring. Observatory Shop has just announced new hours for pickup at the shop: daily from 12 noon to 3 PM, you can peruse online or call Amanda and Jacqui at the store to place an order - they'll be there for one-on-one knitting help as well. Plants make great gifts for mothers and Mossy Fern has plenty in stock for curb side pickup and is delivering locally.  Hastings Paint and Hardware is also well stocked with supplies for gardening as well as other home improvement projects on the "to do" list, and with the warm weather approaching) don't forget that Hastings Velo is open and ready to meet all your mothers’ cycling needs!

To see a more complete list of the retail businesses that are here to serve us, and that you can support, please click here: GUIDE TO SUPPORTING & ENGAGING WITH OUR DOWNTOWN  BUSINESSESThese lists are updated frequently and can also always be found online at  www.hastingsgov.org, or www.destinationhastings.org. You can also download the Google Docs app to your phone and keep these documents handy so you can refer to them whenever you want.

Congratulations are in order to Paul and Jennifer of Boro6 Wine Bar for the opening of B6 Kitchen (see HERE) and to Cat and Harry who's Mossy Fern shop was featured in this week's Enterprise. Cat and Harry have also announced that they are expanding their retail space in Hastings with Mossy Home and Floral Bar coming soon! Their new space (which is in addition to their current space, and will be at the rear of Movie House Mews) will feature botanical inspired home goods- planters, vases, garden gear, birding supplies, dry flowers, tableware, decor, candles, cards, gifts, DIY floral bar, terrarium making and more.

And finally, if you’ve been meaning to sign up for our local newspaper The Enterprise but never got around to doing it, now is the time. They bring us interesting and heartwarming stories about local issues and right now they really need the support.

As soon as we have more information from the State regarding the re-opening of businesses we will be sharing it with you...in the meantime there are lots of ways to support our downtown business owners, many of whom are working overtime to deliver their goods to us with less staff. Our thanks to all of them and everyone who is finding a way to support them!

As always, feel free to reach out to me if you have specific questions, concerns or stories to share: mayor@hastingsgov.org

Sincerely,
