Chief Schnibbe wrote: “On our Birthday list for today is our very own Fire Department Deputy Chief, 50+ year member and current Hastings Fire inspector James Drumm.  Also on our list is our own Ambulance Corps EMT Amy Tilipko, the top responder 3 years in a row for EMS calls in our Department.  Amy has been right on the front lines throughout this pandemic.”  Happy Birthday everyone!!

As always, Chief Lindner says that other people are welcome to come out but please remember to keep physically separated and to wear masks. Moving forward if you have a birthday to celebrate please email the Chiefs at:  firechief@hastingsgov.org

FD Productions Inc.
Not to be outdone by our Police Department, the Fire Department has produced a super video starring our very own Chief Lindner explaining what the Fire Department has been doing during the pandemic and encouraging residents to sign up as volunteers, see HERE. This has to be one of the most meaningful ways to volunteer in the community in which you live – thanks to the Fire and EMS Department for all you do keeping us safe!  Please reach out to the Chief if you’re interested in signing up.

Safe Disposal of PPE
During this pandemic one of our residents, Mat Kowalski, became fixated on a specific problem – how can we set up a system to better dispose of PPE in the downtown?  He came up with an innovative solution – paint some barrels bright red so they catch everyone’s attention and invite people to toss used PPE with a catchy slogan people will remember. Now if you go into the Food Town parking lot, Boulanger parking lot, and at the VFW Plaza, you’ll find those bright red "Show Some Love – Toss the Glove" garbage cans for used PPE.  Thanks Mat this super idea. We invite all of you to make a point of throwing out used PPE in Mat’s special cans – let’s keep our Village gorgeous!
