Chief Schnibbe wrote: “It’s that wonderful time of the week again where I figure out the birthday parade list and route.  Honestly the highlight of my week. We’ve done over 70 drive-bys since April 18th.  One resident (aged 7) even put us in the same category as the Navy Blue Angels flying over NYC to lift people’s spirits!
It’s super rewarding, especially when we see people dancing in the street as we go by. So be on the look out tomorrow for us after 2 pm.  Let your neighbors know to not only expect us, but to join in on the celebration and not be alarmed.”

As always, the Chiefs encourage people to come out and remember to keep physically separated and to wear masks. Moving forward if you have a birthday to celebrate please email the Chiefs at: firechief@hastingsgov.org

Two Heartwarming Bits of News
It was incredibly moving to hear that in just two days the Family-to-Family gofundme raised over $9,000 for a total of $65,000.  What an incredible community this is!  I am beyond thrilled, as are Pam and Nancy at Family-to-Family and our incredible Food Pantry team lead by JoAnne Reed Stokes, the Village Youth Advocate.  The goal is to raise $75,000, so if you have the means, please continue to donate.

The other news is that the Hastings-on-Hudson Masks Project (led by Bettina of the Hastings Sewing Studio and Margie Lavender) have inspired 218 “sewists” to make over 7,000 masks. That’s an incredible number and it is such important work! Laura, one of the sewists, posted this about the project: “The HOH Mask Project has inspired people in so many different ways. Here’s how it inspired my son Henry our household filmmaker: https://www.facebook.com/laura.compagni.77/videos/1596304173863561

Three Requests
  • Please wear your mask if you are out and about and in situations where social distancing is likely to be a challenge – it will protect you and others, it is still required by law, and it will be appreciated by the people you run into!
  • Please dispose of your PPE responsibly – if you see Mat’s red garbage cans in the Food Town parking lot or in Boulanger Plaza use those!
  • Don’t forget the leaf blower law is in effect – remind your landscapers no leaf blowing till the fall!

As always, feel free to reach out to me if you have specific questions, concerns or stories to share: mayor@hastingsgov.org

Sincerely,
