Hastings-on-Hudson School District COVID-19 Update Monday April 6, 2020

This email is being sent to the mailing list for informational purposes as it represents an issue of potentially broad interest to the community.

Dear Hastings Families,

Today, Governor Cuomo extended the closing of schools until April 29. In addition, the Board of Regents canceled the June Regents Examinations. Additional guidance will be provided this week.

Warm regards,

Valerie Henning-Piedmonte, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools

Dear Hastings Families,

There are significant concerns that have been raised about Zoom by the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA). NYSSBA has indicated that the FBI is warning that Zoom meetings can be hacked. They noted that through this "Zoombombing" there have been incidents of pornographic images taking over the screen, profanity, threatening language and, in one case, a display of swastika tattoos. Hackers have targeted class discussions. Until further notice, we are suspending the use of Zoom.

Members of our faculty will be using Google Hangouts Meet exclusively for video conferencing. Google Hangouts Meet, which is part of the G-Suite that we utilize, complies with New York State privacy policies outlined in Ed Law 2-d.

Sincerely,
Melissa Szymanski
Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction
