Message from the mayor: Plans, Performace Art and more Art
Residents;

I wanted to keep you abreast of important work the Trustees face this week and also highlight several arts-related opportunities you shouldn’t miss.

Comprehensive Plan
==================
This Tuesday, the Board will tackle the final review of a version of the Comprehensive Plan that incorporates all the edits from the review sessions carried out over six months.  The Comprehensive Plan is the result of over two years of diligent work by a group of volunteers from our community selected by the Board and chartered with the creation of a detailed plan for our community for the next ten years.  The results of their efforts lay out a series of goals and strategies, with concrete proposals, for literally dozens of initiatives. Late in the Spring, once the Comprehensive Plan has been finalized and approved, we will begin to prioritize the projects and get to work on implementing it.  You can read the plan here:  http://hastingsgov.org/Pages/HastingsNY_Documents/01689DB0-000F8513

“Nothing”
=========
This coming weekend, Thursday, January 27 through Sunday the 30th, Liz Liebeskind of Twelve Mile North (the same group that brings you the Take Me To The River concert, “Popcorn and Puppets”, and other enlightening and fun events), is collaborating with Milton, our own local band, hosting “Nothing” at 45 Main Street (the storefront right across from the Community Center in the new condos there).  This celebration of Andy Warhol has the 2400 square foot raw space being transformed into the “Silver Factory”  for a multi-media Pop happening.  The “happening” will include Milton covering the Velvet Underground and also features a short film by Andy Warhol (from MOMA) and performances that bring to life the studio environment in the Factory in the mid 1960’s. It's informative, interactive & intense which is all very Pop!  Audience members can "screen test", silk screen, dance and... more.  Don’t miss it. It’s for 16-and-up, so if you’re a parent, get a sitter and have a thoroughly engrossing and interesting time out. Likely to be the most interesting and unusual thing you will do this season, and you won’t want to miss it.  Tickets are $20 at the door, $15 for groups of 5 or more, and you get in for $10 if you are in 60’s attire.  More info: www.12milesnorth.org

More Art
========
Finally, if you have a chance and are downtown or visiting the library, walk on into the Municipal Building whenever you get a chance and take a few minutes to check out the entrancing and spectacular exhibit “Known and Unknown” by local artist Susan Patricia Cooper. The exhibit is up until February 4th. Her large canvases are on both the first floor and upstairs and are well worth a viewing.  Spare a few minutes and come away enchanted.

There's quite a bit going on in the next few months (affordable housing, comprehensive planning, budget season, and more art) that we will be detailing in upcoming emails.  We'll also be issuing an annual report for last year's activity in the next week or two. As always, feel free to reach out if you have questions, issues or ideas.

Sincerely,

Peter Swiderski
Mayor
