Fellow residents;
A quick note to report on the aftermath from the blizzard last night. We had somewhere between fifteen and twenty inches dumped on us, depending upon where the wind drifted the snow and where you place the ruler. The high winds kept the snow off the branches, so we had no major trees down and no one in Hastings lost power.
Our DPW crews were out continuously yesterday until 10:00PM when they were pulled for white-out conditions. They worked frome early this morning to open and salt the roads, and the Village was largely restored to full service by early afternoon. The commuter lots were dug out early - for nought, as it turned out, as MetroNorth was not operating trains most of the day because drifts covered the thrid rail and trains kept getting stranded. Hats off to the DPW crews, who were short-handed due to the holidays and worked crazy hours. The police and fire houses were all fully manned in case of emergency: as always, we appreciate their service. As the rest of us hunkered down, they ventured out. Thank you.
Garbage pick-up resumes tomorrow: please make sure there is a path carved to your garbage cans if you want them picked up. You may want to check on MetroNorth service before rushing to the train as they are currently running on a Sunday schedule due to the disruptions. Finally, please make sure you shovel your sidewalk if there is one on your property.
All the best for the rest of this holiday week - and a healthy, happy and peaceful New Year.
