Message from the Mayor: Huge Firemen’s’ Parade and block party this weekend
Fellow residents -

I am pleased to share with you a reminder about exciting events this weekend, as well as impacts on roads, parking lots  and an early closing for the Farmer’s Market.

Fireman’s Parade
==============
This Saturday (September 25th) at 3PM, Hastings is hosting the huge Westchester’s Volunteer Fireman’s Association parade, which will include over 100 fire engines, 500 firemen, and at least 30 marching bands.  The parade will start at Farragut and Merrill Street, and then wend its way to Main Street and then down Warburton to the reviewing stand in front of the VFW hall, onto Maple and down to the commuter parking lot.   If you’ve never attended one of these parades,  they are spectacular, entertaining and a remarkably moving testament to the volunteer spirit that imbues the fire department companies that serve our communities so well.  (If you have seen one, then you’ll be there because you already know it’s special!)  The march is in honor of the 100th anniversary of the founding of Hastings’ own River View Manor Hose Company.  Don’t miss this:  it’s worth making time for.

If you’re downtown on Saturday to view the parade, we encourage you to make an afternoon of it. Visit our many excellent restaurants, boutiques and stores.  The Chamber of Commerce and the NY Press Association have a State-wide effort to encourage residents to spend $25 on September 25th in support of downtown businesses and we join them in urging you to keep our local businesses in mind on Saturday.

lock Party
=========
Preceding this march, we have a block party on Friday night (from 7PM to 9PM) on Main Street hosted by the Fire Department, right in front of the Community Center.  There will be live music with local bands, food (off the grill), and a chance to see our (brand new) Hook and Ladder apparatus.
