In June, the committee held a Community Planning Meeting, which was facilitated by John Dennehey, from the Hudson Valley Greenway. Residents met in the Community Center to discuss a series of questions: what they would like to see in Hastings; if Hastings should be a destination for visitors; and how they would foresee Hastings in the future.
The Committee also held several community discussions, at locations around the Village, to discuss: what are the best things about Hastings; what is the image of Hastings; what is and is not working in the Village; and what we want Hastings to be in the future.
Summaries from those meetings are posted on the Village's website. (COMMUNITY PLANNING: SUMMARY, QUESTION ONE, QUESTION TWO AND QUESTION THREE) (SMALL MEETING SUMMARY)
In August, the committee will start to discuss these responses. In addition, the Hunter Planning Studio prepared a summary of the responses to their survey. The committee will also review those responses. (HUNTER SURVEY COMMENTS)
Earlier In May, the Hunter students presented their semester's work to the Village and to the Committee. (HUNTER REPORT) The students researched many topics typically covered in a comprehensive plan and prepared a series of recommendations based on their course work and their observations. The committee is grateful to Richard Bass, who taught the course, and to the students.
Several Committee members are preparing a Request for Proposals (RFP), to solicit proposals from planning firms to aid in the development of the Comprehensive Plan. The Committee plans to forward that information to the Village Board in mid August.
