The Hastings Public Library – Above & Beyond: Expanding Our Points of View
As the Hastings Public Library begins its second century, the Library Board of Trustees and the Friends of the Library have exciting plans for enlarging the Library’s Orr Community Room, our downstairs, multipurpose event space, and adding an open-air deck atop the extension to the West, overlooking the Hudson River and the Palisades.

Above & Beyond: Expanding Our Points of View has been conceived in response to the overwhelming demand for more space to host the film screenings, book talks, concerts, and other free cultural and educational events so popular among both children and adults. At the same time, it provides a way to maximize one of the Library’s most treasured assets-its breath-taking vistas up and down the River.

Groundbreaking for the project begins this summer. The cost of the basic 600-square foot expansion of the Orr Room will be covered by the Library Endowment Fund and a New York State Department of Education grant. We need to raise an additional $100,000 to build the deck and refurbish the Orr Room. You will soon be receiving a letter describing Above & Beyond in full detail and asking for your support. Please join us in our campaign to expand our points of view inside and out at the Library.

Dewey Loves the Arts
Our next program in the “Dewey Loves the Arts” series will focus on sculpture. Bruce Levy, architect and resident, will give a talk on Jacques Lipchitz. Many of you know that his famous statue, “Between Heaven & Earth,” a gift to the Village from Mr. Lipchitz, was rededicated last autumn. Come learn more about Jacques Lipchitz, renowned artist and resident of Hastings-on-Hudson, his adopted home from 1947 until 1963.
