January 20, 2014

Dear Resident,

As you may have heard, the Hastings area is anticipating yet another winter event tomorrow, Tuesday, January 21st, 2014.  Forecasts vary, but our area may receive as much as 6 inches of snow or more! This snowfall will be followed by extreme cold weather, much like we experienced a couple of weeks ago.

I am taking this time to particularly remind homeowners with property along Mt. Hope Blvd and Lefurgy Ave that it is their obligation to have sidewalks in front of their property free and clear of snow and ice within 12 hours of the ending of the winter event.

When these sidewalks are not clear, children are forced to walk to/from school in the roadway, making the situation all the more hazardous.

Of course, it is not only school area homeowners that must clear their sidewalks; it is the responsibility of all home/business owners to do the same. The Hastings on Hudson Police Department will be forced to issue summons if this law is not followed.

I look at the calendar and it is only 10 weeks until April! Until that time, I appreciate your anticipated cooperation.

Sincerely,

David M. Bloomer
Chief of Police
