Did you miss Becca Mudge’s program “Garden Midwifery”
(aka Gardening in Deer Country)?
(Or were you there and couldn’t keep up with all those fancy botanical names for suggested flowers and shrubs?) Either way, call the library or email us at has@westchesterlibraries.org and we will send you a copy of her cheat-sheet notes.
We’ve got you covered
On Saturday, May 7, we will have a special Mother’s Day fundraising sale featuring baked goods, potted plants, books and special gift items. Surprise mom and support the Library. The following Saturday, May 14, the Farmers Market will be open from 9am until 1 pm in the parking lot. A special word of thanks to the circulation desk staff who willingly--well, faithfully--open the Library early on market days.
This year’s Pulitzer Prize winners
Includes Jennifer Egan’s A Visit from the Goon Squad for fiction and The Emperor of All Maladies by Siddhartha Mukherjee. We have both titles and just ordered them on audio cd.
Not to forget the young’ins, we also have Gary Schmidt’s acclaimed Okay For Now, and on audio cd as well.
Writer, entrepreneur and technology guru Seth Godin
is the featured speaker at the Westchester Library Association’s annual conference to be held May 13 at the Doubletree Hotel. The public is welcome to the luncheon where Mr. Godin will speak. Then, at 2pm, the Washington Irving Book Awards, celebrating local authors, will be presented. Not to brag, but Hastings has more recipients than any other Westchester community.
Fiction: Stefanie Pintoff for In the Shadow of Gotham
Peter Quinn: The Man Who Never Returned
Non-Fiction Seth Godin: Linchpin: Are You Indispensible?
ames Kaplan: Frank: The Voice
(All four authors have spoken at the Library. Remember to check our website www.hastingslibrary.org or sign up for the Village email alert so that you do not miss future programs.)
In closing
Following is an excerpt from a statement made by Mayor Peter Swiderski at the April 12th Public Hearing.
“To me, the Library is more than a want, it is a need. And cutting that would result in hitting people who rely on it in a way that is more than trivial.
It is sometimes what they need to hunt for a new job or the only entertainment they are getting in their lives right now.
I consider it a basic standard of civilized decency to provide those services.”
