message from the mayor: An Art Show, a TV Show, an Art Installation
Fellow residents;

A quick note to alert you to a compelling local art show, a new TV show, and a public art exhibit, all three of which grace our village and evoke our deep artistic and media roots.

Just this week, you really should set aside an hour to check out “Brave New Worlds: Ritalin, Robots and Revolution” at 45 Main, (the new condos across from the Community Center), in the storefront to the furthest right as you look at the building. (Let’s face it: the title alone should get you to the door!) This exhibit is put on by 12 Miles North (the same local group that puts on the Take Me To The River concerts, “Popcorn and Puppets” and so much else) and features the installation art of 60 SUNY Purchase students.  If you can manage it, go tomorrow, Tuesday, from 5PM to 8PM, and meet some of the students as you check out this show.  For show times later in the week, go to[Link] http://12milesnorth.org/.   It will be one of the more interesting hours you spend this month and I can safely promise you a unique experience.

A reminder about our new half-hour television show on WHOH, “The Current”.  It features resident Bill McGowan, who interview local residents on various topics of local interest.  This is a professionally produced show: that uses the volunteered good talents of of Hastings residents.  Bill has a long history in television journalism and puts on a good show.  The schedule is at [Link]http://whoh-tv.info/external_schedule/simple_day_schedule/1 and you can view the first three episodes on your PC at:

State of Downtown Business, World Renown Saxophonist Gary Smulyan & Riverarts President Carol Hayward, Boys Varsity Basketball Preview

Steve Tuber/Jodie Mayer on HOH Rec Basketball League, James Kaplan - Author of Sinatra Biography, Project Share Volunteers from Hastings High School

Mayor Peter Swiderski on Deer Problem, Reverend Anna Pearson on Alternative Gifts Market, Boys & Girls Varsity Soccer Team Stars

Finally, I’m sure many of you have noticed the evocative street installations of houses on stilts downtown. This is the first public art effort of a series by our Arts Committee and seeks to provoke our imagination and our thoughts about our past.   You can read more about the installation and share a memory either on line at http://4memorylane.com/home.html or at participation boxes available at a number of locations downtown.   Memories you leave will be compiled into a book released in March.

You’re part of a village with a tradition of arts and media. Enjoy the opportunities (all free!) to experience the arts (right here!) and learn more about your community.

Sincerely,

Peter Swiderski
Mayor
