Please join the Hastings-on-Hudson Village Arts Commission for the Opening Reception of "Memory Lane" tomorrow, Friday, December 3 from 6p.m. to 8p.m. at Human Bodyworks, 32 Main Street, Hastings-on-Hudson.
"Memory Lane", an outdoor sculpture installation by Marie-Claude Giroux and curated by Jim Bergesen, is the precursor to a series of juried public art projects and events designed to stimulate community-wide interest and participation in the arts. Hastings-on-Hudson has a long history of artists living and working here and we wanted to bring this aesthetic presence into the everyday experience of residents.
"Memory Lane", with its colorful houses on stilts are strategically placed throughout the village; Fulton Park in front of the Hastings-on-Hudson Public Library, the James Harmon Community Center, the VFW Park and the mailbox island near the train station, is intended to elicit memories, hopes and dreams of home and community.
Residents of all ages are invited to share their responses. To facilitate this, miniatures of the sculptures have been placed throughout the village as collection points; these are located at the Library, the Station Café and the Community Center. Responses may also be submitted through the project’s website at www.4memorylane.com.
The project will run through March 2011, and will culminate in the publication of a book containing the collected responses.
The Hastings-on-Hudson Village Arts Commission was established by the Village Board of Trustees in 2006 to enrich the lives of Hastings-on-Hudson residents through the arts.~ Seven members with accomplished backgrounds in the arts, selected by the Mayor and Trustees, promote and stimulate interest and participation Village-wide in arts events in public venues. Meetings, open to the public, are held the second Wednesday of each month at 6pm in the John Harmon Community Center's Lower Level Conference Room.~ Please RSVP before a meeting to inquire of any schedule changes.~
