SUMMARY

The focus of Woodshop environment and program is based on a practical and effective method of teaching a “hands on” skill.  It increases one’s ability to learn how to approach a project from the planning stages, to the development and to its completion.

This workshop has been reviewed and accepted of its approach on “hands on learning” by Greg Stephens, Math Chair and Doron Markus, Science Chair.  There will by a few of the teachers implementing problems from their respective classes as part of the Woodshop.

GOAL OF THE WOODSHOP

1.      To encourage, instruct and assist in the development of the individual(s) knowledge within the scope through wood framing and carpentry.

2.      Each Woodshop and Lesson Plan will be followed with an 8 to 12 minute question / review period and a continued discussion and review of areas covered in the previous week(s) of the Woodshop.   A full summary, verbal quiz and review will be given before the 4th, 7th & 10h week of the course.

3.      The program will also focus on the individual(s) ability to learn in a “hands on” setting as an individual and within a group.  Applying and using practical mathematics on a tape measure, scaled graph and architects/engineers scaled ruler.  And offers practical science through volume measurement, inertia and force.  This increases the individual’s ability to comprehend and understand the information provided on an architect’s rendering / plan or through motor skills learning.

4.      Each individual will also be prepared with the basics to approach and have the ability to apply, if needed, the skills to work as an apprentice, carpenters helper or to seek further education on becoming a draftsperson.
