It has been nearly two years since we lost Fred Hubbard and his tireless devotion to the trailways of [Marker]Hastings-on-Hudson. We knew we could never replace Fred’s ability to rally people around a good cause or a trail in need of remediation but we hoped that the online Hastings Trail Group would serve as a community resource where we might alert one another to problems and inspire one another to fix them. That has not happened; posts to the group are few and far between.
What can we do to be sure that the Hastings-on-Hudson trailways are cared for by volunteers working under the guidance of our Parks & Recreation Department, which has governmental responsibility for them? How can we best resurrect the Adopt-a-Trail program Fred, the village, and the volunteers had begun to piece together? Who will run it? Is there a better way to utilize the online site, and encourage participation? Do you have other ideas? Or, in your experience, are the trails doing fine without any “organized” help?
We are asking you to attend a meeting to offer your ideas and suggestions about the Hastings-on-Hudson trailways. The meeting will be held on June 15 at the James Harmon Community Center, 44 Main Street, at 7 p.m.
