Andrus on Hudson Joins AmeriCorps Initiative to Make Volunteer Service a Boomer Destination

Andrus on Hudson announces its special selection as a host site for a unique national initiative called “AmeriCorps in Eldercare Settings,” also know as ACES.  By hosting AmeriCorps members, Andrus on Hudson will foster its partnership with community volunteers and Andrus residents.

Through this program we hope to tap local talent and engage Boomers in a creative way.  Director of Community Life, Sandra Sindaco says that “Our residents will benefit from the camaraderie and the opportunity to socialize with individuals who share interests with them.” Andrus on Hudson’s Americorps members will help residents revisit old interests and explore new ones through a formal recruiting and mentoring system for volunteers who wish to share a talent, hobby, interest or just to spend some time chatting with residents.

Andrus on Hudson was selected through a competitive process as an ACES host site, an opportunity made possible through an AmeriCorps grant awarded to the Foundation for Long Term Care.  Beginning in the spring 2010, AmeriCorps members will serve 900 hours at a wide variety of institutional and home care settings in the NYC and Albany metros area and in Connecticut.
