Urgent: Mayor's update on Village Status at 11:00PM
Fellow residents;

The wind storm that has blown through the region has caused considerable damage throughout Hastings. Over 55,000 homes are without power in Westchester and another 70,000 in NYC.  Up to 400 homes in Hastings are without power.  No one has been injured, though falling trees have struck and damaged a number of houses and cars, including one that was occupied (driver escaped injury).  There are power lines down all over the village:  under no circumstance should you approach them, and be aware that a power line can jump ten feet when live and sparking.  Please do not drive at this time unles there is an emergency.

Downed trees have shut at least 10 roads including:
 Southgate
 Broadway south of Garland
 Broadway north of High
 Oakdale
 Fairmont
 Farragut Parkway
 Garland Drive
 Stanley and Clarence
 Summit

Please note that these streets are NOT likely to be reopened tonight.  A number of trees down are large and there are live wires involved in many cases. Because of safety concerns, little can be done until daylight.

Trees have come down all over the village and there is considerable debris in the road: if you must drive, please be aware that branches and blown debris are everywhere.  If you are without power, please call Con Ed at 1-800-752-6633.  Con Edison trucks are not currently out restoring service in these conditions: they will start once the wind has abated. It may be some time before you see power restored. Our police department cannot tell you when this might happen.  You should only call them if there is a safety condition (a new tree down that closes a road not listed above) at 478-2344.

This remains a dangerous and volatile situation. Please stay indoors until daylight.

Peter Swiderski
Mayor
