a cocktail party and fundraiser in celebration of the Hastings Public Library’s first century
Saturday, June 15, 5-8 p.m., 255 Broadway, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY
The Friends of the Hastings Public Library are pleased to host “Almost Raucous,” a cocktail party and fundraiser in celebration of the Hastings Public Library’s first century, on Saturday, June 15, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m., rain or shine.
The party will be held at the home of Judith McHale and Michael O’Halloran on three landscaped acres that gently slope toward the Hudson River. Guests will be able to explore the gardens and visit the house, built by noted meteorologist Dr. Daniel Draper in 1905. The exterior of the house, with hipped roof, widow’s walk, and veranda, was recently restored to its original appearance, using decorative architectural features found in the carriage house on the property.
Hors d’oeuvres from Harvest-on-Hudson and wine from Hastings Wines & Liquors will be served, and music will be provided by several Hastings High School ensembles. Former Mayor Lee Kinnally will be the master of ceremonies for the event.
A silent auction features quintessential Hastings experiences, among them a tour of Ed Young’s art studio, an introduction to beekeeping by the owners of Let It Bee, lunch at Maud’s Tavern with writers James Kaplan or Peter Quinn, and kayaking on the Hudson River, guided by Commodore John Maggiotto and other members of the Yonkers Paddling and Rowing Club.
Tickets are on sale now at the Hastings Public Library, 7 Maple Avenue, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. Prices are $75 for members of Friends of the Library, $100 for general public (includes membership). For information or to order tickets, call the Library at (914) 478-3307.
Judith McHale served as under secretary of state for public diplomacy and public affairs, 2009-11. A principal advisor to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Ms. McHale worked to develop and implement a new strategic framework for public diplomacy. She was a featured speaker at the Hastings Public Library in December, 2012.
Astoria Federal Savings is the principal sponsor of “Almost Raucous,” the centennial celebration for the Hastings Public Library.
